CKNW Orphans’ Fund Pledge Day 2011

December 2nd, 2011

Today is CKNW Orphans’ Fund Pledge Day, the largest fundraising event of the year for the CKNW Orphans’ Fund, a charity helping distribute over $1 million annually to children that are most vulnerable in the province.

For the past 60 years, the CKNW Orphans’ Fund have been dedicated to promoting the health and welfare of physically, mentally challenged and disadvantaged children in BC communities. They have funded:

  • Therapies (speech, music, horseback writing, occupational)
  • Educational bursaries – for children with special needs so they could attend provincially appointed schools focused on helping these children
  • Camperships – for children that cannot afford to go to camp
  • Specialized medical equipment – wheelchairs, van conversions, orthopedic shoes, hearing aids and much more
  • Families from out of the lower mainland who require emergency family housing while their children are at BC Children’s Hospital, and emergency dental care

Pledge Day goes from 5:30am until 7pm, and I’m proud to be one of the volunteers answering phones for them this afternoon.

To make a donation call 604-222-9898 or donate online.

    About 604 Pulse

Where should we go this weekend? This is a question we hear a lot, and it’s a question we often ask ourselves. So we had an idea: why not create a website where we explore all the things to see and do in the Vancouver, Coast & Mountains region, and then share them with you. We’ll provide locals and visitors personal insight into the cool things you can see and do in the region. Each week we’ll give you new tips, highlight upcoming events, share our favourite blogs, and tell you about our travels.

Vancouver, Coast & Mountains is a non-profit society, which represents business and community tourism interests from throughout the region. VCM invites you to come and discover the four distinct destination areas that make up Vancouver, Coast & Mountains: Metro Vancouver, Mighty Fraser Country, Sea to Sky Country, and the Sunshine Coast.
